On any special occasion, our Valknut Viking Necklace makes a lovely gift for a loved one. The valknut is a symbol made up of three interconnected triangles. It can be found on a number of artefacts from the ancient Germanic peoples' archaeological record. The term valknut is modern, and the term or terms that were used to refer to the symbol during its historical use are unknown.
Scholars have given many explanations for the symbol, including linking it to the god Odin and comparing it to the three-horned symbol seen on the 9th-century Snoldelev Stone, which it may be related to.
The valknut can be found on a wide range of things in locations where Germanic peoples lived. The Nene River Ring, an Anglo-Saxon gold finger ring from the 8th to 9th century, clearly displays the sign. The emblem is carved on an ornately stylized bedpost in the Viking Age Oseberg Ship buried near Tnsberg, Norway, and it is also featured in the Oseberg tapestry fragments, a partially preserved tapestry found within the ship burial. Furthermore, the valknut appears.
The symbol appears in two traditional, topologically separate versions in the historical record. The emblem is a unicursal trefoil knot, which can also be found in the triquetra.
The Stora Hammars I stone and the Tängelgrda stone, both from Gotland, Sweden, feature it strongly.
